Networking is a critical tool in the new world for professional advancement, internal or external to the organization and of course personal. I promise you that it doesn’t have to be awkward at the next conference or meetup, and I wasn’t born with this natural ability to talk to every person with complete confidence either, but after decades, when I would usually go alone, and not only in Israel, I learned how to do it and now I teach this ability for future generations. And yes, even the shy person can do it.
